Panther Youth Wrestling Newsletter – Issue #1

This is the first of the weekly PYWC Newsletter.  For those new to the club, watch your email on Sunday night for this email which will provide information on upcoming events.  Please pay particular attention to the upcoming tournament section as there will be deadlines to turn in tournament forms and fees.

What a great first week of practice!  The kids really worked hard and made good progress in the first couple of workouts.  For the experienced group, we worked on a few takedowns, breakdowns and different types of half nelsons.  The new group worked on fundamentals of wrestling (objective, scoring, neutral and referee’s position,etc.), double-leg takedown and the basic half nelson.  Each group had at least one live match per practice and we finished with games.  We have a great group of returning wrestlers along with a talented group of newcomers.

Please let me know if there is anyone still in need of shoes.  I have many more pairs available, so just send me the size you are looking for.  Several have asked me about shoes with Velcro straps instead of laces.  I am out of that type.  Sorry.

Apparel Orders

Coach Mike Green is working on a new vendor to provide our apparel.  The company we are looking at most closely is in Bloomington and has a web-based ordering systems.  This will make it very convenient to order and pay for what you want.  Please watch this section for more information next week.

Picture Night/Handing Out of Singlets

Coach Scott Upton is working on securing a photographer and date.  We generally have picture night in place of practice prior to our first tournament.  So look for an update in this section next week.

Singlets will also be handed out prior to picture night.  I ordered several new XS sizes.  The front logos have been put on and now we are having the Jack and Duncan ribbons placed on the back.  When those are ready, we will hand out.  Most of the kids were weighed during signup.  However, you will not know if the uniform fits well until your child tries it on.  If you have concerns, I will check at picture night and changes sizes where necessary.
